MPS and Royal FloraHolland launch MPS-ProductProof

AALSMEER, The Netherlands: During the first day of the Royal FloraHolland Trade Fair MPS and FloraHolland have launched the next phase of MPS-ProductProof. This new systematic gives transparency to which active ingredients are present in ornamental products.

In the Royal FloraHolland House CEO’s Yolande van den Boom (MPS) and Lucas Vos (Royal FloraHolland) symbolically launched this next phase of MPS-ProductProof. They did this through handing over a “proof of participation” to 2 Dutch growers of the initial pilot; KP Holland (Leo van der Knaap) and Kiepflower (Nico Kiep).

MPS-ProductProof is a systematic where, by use of a obligated registration within 24 hours of an application of a crop protection agent, and by use of independent sampling, proof is given that certain active ingredients are not present and have not been used during the growing stage. MPS and FloraHolland, in cooperation with the VGB and a group of 50 pilot growers, have worked hard in the last 1,5 years to complete the development of MPS-ProductProof.

“With MPS-ProductProof we are meeting the need from consumers and retailers for transparency on usage of active ingredients on flowers & plants,” according to CEO of MPS Van den Boom. Besides growers and retailers also other stakeholders have been closely engaged with the development. “The pilot phase has been finalized successfully. Now we are taking the next step with a national roll out and a call for international growers to apply for a pilot project in their specific area”. The CEO of MPS is actively calling growers to apply for MPS-ProductProof.

MPS-ProductProof has been received in a positive way by growers and retailers. Also Royal FloraHolland has high expectations of the new transparency tool. “We are expecting that during 2017 approximately 250 growers will take the step towards MPS-ProductProof,” says CEO Lucas Vos from Royal FloraHolland. “From the side of the retailers we are already receiving signals that from 2019 onwards they are looking to buy 50% of their total assortment at growers who are participating in MPS-ProductProof. This shows at what level the market is anticipating and needing a systematic like MPS-ProductProof”.

Royal FloraHolland and MPS consider to start a MPS-ProductProof pilot group in USA in 2017.
