events_start_floating_flower_parade_2016WESTLAND, Netherlands: This year is the 19th anniversary of the Floating Flower Parade, a floral flotilla that every first weekend in August sails through the communities of Westland, Midden-Delfland, Schiedam, Vlaardingen, Maassluis, Rijswijk, The Hague and Delft in early August. This year’s theme is ‘Stunning Beauty’.

The theme provided decorating inspiration for the over 60 boats which will lavishly decked out with flowers, plants, fruits and vegetables grown in the Netherland’s most famous horticultural region Westland.

The 19th edition of the Floating Flower Parade was opened on Friday August 5 and will pass through the Dutch canals until Sunday August 7. Last year, the event drew half a million people.

A panel of expert judges faced the daunting task of determining which boat will be crowned the best in show. The jury was unanimous to recognise the Snowtime-themed boat from The Corsoboot Westland Foundation with the title Best Boat in the Non-Commercial Boats Category, while seed giant Rijk Zwaan took home the first prize in the Commercial Boats Category with its Healthy Art-themed vessel.

On Sunday August 7, the final day of the Parade, the event organisers will reveal the winner of the Visitor Vote Award.
