1HORGEN,Switzerland: Hardy plant gardeners from the whole of Europe and the USA meet in Horgen, from August 10 to 15, 2014, for the 2014 Congress of the International Hardy Plants Union (ISU).

The Swiss hardy plant gardeners have prepared a wide-ranging programme for their guests, with visits to interesting firms, private gardens, and public parks. Among the highlights of the congress is a visit to the “Magic Mountain” in Davos, the setting of Thomas Mann’s famous novel, together with a visit to the alpine garden to be found there.

A second highlight will be the presentation of the ISU 2014 Awards. This prize is awarded for particular new breeds of hardy plants. 170 different varieties of hardy plants are awaiting appraisal by a competent jury at the Technical University of Wädenswil.

The ISU Awards were presented for the first time exactly twenty years ago in Wädenswil. A great number of hardy plants which were awarded ISU prizes then – such as Carex morrowii ‘Ice Dance’ or Anemone ‘Pamina’, now form part of the standard sales range of hardy plant gardeners.

All relevant information regarding the 2014 ISU Congress can be found on the www.isu-perennials.org website.
