ANGERS, France, June 10, 2012: In the framework of the evaluation of the European Union system for the protection of plant varieties, some issues of a legal nature have been raised by various stakeholders. Some of these put into question the core principles of the basic regulation and also, in some cases, of the UPOV Convention. In order to discuss such legal issues of importance for the plant variety rights system, the CPVO Administrative Council members and observers supported the establishment of an ad hoc working group composed of five or six legal and technical experts. This group will meet when necessary with a view to report back to the AC. The first meeting of the group was in Paris, on June 6, 2012.
