IFAT CHINA, International Trade Fair for Water, Sewage, Refuse, Recycling and Natural Energy Sources, attracted 362 exhibitors and over 10,500 visitors for the last event in 2008. The proportion of exhibitors from outside China was again very high, at over 50 percent. In 2009 EPTEE + CWS, Show for Water, Air, Waste, Energy and Recycling, a strong national trade fair, hosted a total of 756 exhibitors and over 32,000 visitors. As such, these two events complement each other very well, both in terms of exhibitor and visitor profiles.
IFAT CHINA was successfully launched in Shanghai in 2004 by MMI, the organizer of IFAT in Munich, Germany, the leading international trade fair for environmental solutions worldwide. "IFAT CHINA and EPTEE + CWS are two strong trade fairs for environmental technology, joining forces in China for the national and for international markets. Now that these two fairs are collaborating, exhibitors and visitors of both will gain access to an even wider range of promising business opportunities, all gathered together under one roof. Through this cooperation, IFAT CHINA + EPTEE + CWS will be the leading platform for the sector in the Asian region," said Eugen Egetenmeir, Member of the Management Board of Messe München International.
Mr. Jiang Gang, general manager of Shanghai ZM International Exhibition Co., Ltd, expressed that “the collaboration of IFAT CHINA and EPTEE + CWS will create a perfect platform for domestic and international environmental protection enterprises to exchange leading edge know-how in the sector and grab exciting opportunities in this fast developing market. This cooperation will definitely create a strong driving force for the development of the environmental protection industry in China. Relying on the rich market exploration experience and successful show organization history of MMI and ZM, IFAT CHINA + EPTEE + CWS is sure to make a historic breakthrough in terms of exhibition scale, quality, service, and not least exhibitor and visitor numbers. We believe that with this joint effort of all parties, IFAT CHINA + EPTEE + CWS will become one of the grandest shows in the global environmental protection industry.”
Next year in Shanghai, World Expo 2010 and the fourth edition of the environmental-technology fair IFAT CHINA begin at almost the same time. There are also similarities in the themes of the two events: The Expo theme "Better city, better life" implies making ecological advancements in megacities in China and around the world. And IFAT CHINA evolves around the technologies and services that are needed to do so.
Egetenmeir sees the World Expo and IFAT China as two events that are mutually beneficial to one another. "While Expo showcases visions and concept ideas for sustainable urban development, our exhibitors present the equipment and state-of-the-art technology that are needed for environmental solutions."
World Expo 2010, which is being held in the Chinese megacity of Shanghai from May 1 – October 31, 2010, is expected to be an event of superlatives. With more than 200 participating countries and at least 70 million expected guests, it will surpass all dimensions known to date. The slogan "Better city, better life" calls for concepts for sustainable urban development that, above all, take ecological aspects into account in addition to cultural and social ones.
Because of Expo, the host city of Shanghai is supposed to become greener and cleaner than ever. According to Germany Trade & Invest (Germany’s former Federal Agency for Foreign Trade), the business center will spend the equivalent of ten billion Euros on environmental projects during the current fourth Environment Investment Plan, which covers the years 2008 to 2010.
