Based around the theme of ‘Nice and Cheeky!, this year’s parade draw attention to saucy entries like the boat of Pippi Longstocking and a vessel that provoked hallucinatory sensations among the crowds. In a festive atmosphere the streets lining the canals and the bridges over them overflowed with an estimated 300,000 people. Some 400 volunteers took part in the three days event which sailed through the communities of Westland, Midden-Delfland, Vlaardingen, Maassluis, Rijswijk, The Hague and Delft.
The community of De Lier with their ‘Bewitched boat’ took home the award for the best Extras.
The Floating Flower Parade 2010 is set for July 30 and 31 and August 1 2010.
During the same weekend the Amsterdam’s Gay Parade emerged as a strong competitor. On Saturday 500,000 people flocked to the annual boat parade of homosexuals floating flamboyantly through the historic canals of Amsterdam.
