GreenTech expands into Mexico
24-26 March 2020

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands:  The world’s premier horticultural technology show GreenTech has announced it will expand its international network by opening a new trade show in Mexico in March next year.

The first day of GreenTech Amsterdam, a horticultural technology show running until tomorrow in Amsterdam,  saw the official launch of GreenTech Americas, set to take place from 24-26 March 2020 in Querétaro, Mexico.

GreenTech’s decision to set up a satellite show in Mexico is only natural as the country is a major agricultural producer, its number of hectares of protected cropping is growing exponentially and it considered being the gateway to US, Canada and South America.

Mariska Dreschler, Director Horticulture GreenTech: “We believe that with GreenTech Amsterdam as a global platform we should reach out to the emerging markets in the world. We need a regional platform in the western part of the world to meet the regional needs of the growers. By organizing GreenTech Americas we are able to address the specific needs of the growers and suppliers from this emerging region. Looking at e.g. the specific climates, the producers and consumer needs. We believe the GreenTech Americas is complementing the portfolio of the domain Horticulture strategically.”

Mexico has two main export markets: US and Canada. The production value is around 3,000 million of USD coming from exports of almost 3 million tons. The number of hectares under protection has a surface of 40,862 hectares, which places them on the 6th position worldwide in protected agriculture.

GreenTech is not the first event organiser that sees potential in the Mexican market. Earlier this year, Messe ESSEN in Germany revealed its plans for a new trade show in Mexico in September this year. Entitled Ornamental Plants & Flowers MEXICO (OP&F) powered by MESSE ESSEN and endorsed by Mexico’s Ministry of Agriculture, the new trade show will be held at the Centro Citibanamex convention centre in Mexico City September 18 to 20.
