Ard Stoutjesdijk, Director Operations and co-owner of Vitro Plus provided a comprehensive overview of the company and its activities followed by a company tour.
Minister Kamp showed particular interest in Vitro Plus’ latest award-winning invention: tiny seed that germinate and grows on inside its packaging into a head of lettuce.
Minister Kamp really wanted to see the cultivation of ferns and lettuce on the premises of the company.
Vitro Plus has received a grant from the MIT-scheme (MKB regional and top sectors innovation promoting programme) and used it to replace all florescent tubes for energy efficient LED lighting. Under LED lighting plants grow bigger. “At first we had ´little incubator plants´ which grew into their full maturity in greenhouses. Now we are able to make a finished product! “Requests from companies from around the world are flying in to make our system applicable to theirs; for example for the cultivation of coffee plants, banana and cocoa trees,” said Stoutjesdijk. Ard was delighted with the Minister’s visit. “It’s a great recognition for all the hard work our team have put in to our business and its technological breakthroughs.”
