events_tulipa_TEAMNLRIO DE JANEIRO, Brasil: This week’s pre-Olympic Party at the Holland Heineken House in Rio de Janeiro, held on Thursday August 4, was delighted to host the launch of Tulipa ‘TeamNL’ by tulip breeder Wim Balder, Team Holland chef de mission Maurits Hendriks and Heineken boss Pascal Gilet.

Sportsmen, their friends and family and other party goers saw how the three men performed the name giving ceremony by pouring, what else then, a magnum of Heineken beer over a bouquet of TeamNL tulips.

Tulipa ‘TeamNL’ is a very healthy tulip featuring bright orange red blooms. The new tulip is the result of an extensive and meticulous breeding and selection process by Firma J. Balder and Firma P. Koedijk. The tulip was selected because its colours perfectly symbolise the passion of the Dutch sportsmen. Flowers were forced into bloom in the Netherlands and subsequently shipped to Brasil.

Over the next 17 days the Dutch Flower Group will ship an estimated 30,000 ‘Prinses Irene’ tulips to decorate the hopefully many Award Ceremonies at the Holland Heineken House.
