ANTALYA, Turkey: Antalya played host the 10th edition of its Flower Festival, taking place from May 23- 24. The flower parade featured a large number of floral floats which were watched by thousands of visitors, among which many tourists.
People lining the parade route were offered a sumptuous display of flowers. Cheers and applause kept the adrenaline flowing throughout the 2-hour march. Millions of carnations were given out along the streets.
AIPH’s Tim Briercliffe and Kevin Chung participated in the international jury for the Antalya Flower Festival.
The event, which comes at the end of the carnation growing season in the area, consists of trucks dressed in flowers producing stunning displays of colour. These trucks then drive through the city centre accompanied by crowds of people giving out free flowers to everyone they meet. Flowers make people smile and nothing demonstrated that more clearly than this superb initiative led by AIPH member Osman Bagdatlioglu. In the presence of the mayor of the city and a government minister the winners are awarded their prizes in a flower-laden ceremony.
