ALEXANDRIA, USA: Have you ever wondered how to land a TV interview and be that flower expert on the local news showing floral designs and talking about your shop? On July 7, Professional Floral Communicators – International is presenting “You’re On in 3,2, 1 … Media Savvy” in conjunction with the American Institute of Floral Designers National Symposium in Chicago.

During the workshop, Susan Wilke, AAF, PFCI, of Karthauser & Sons Wholesale Florist in Germantown, Wis., and J. Robbin Yelverton, AAF, AIFD, PFCI, CF, of Blumz by…JRDesigns in metro Detroit explain how to become a media darling. The duo will give audience members a turn at the mic during mock interviews.

As spokesperson for the Wisconsin Floral Marketing Council, Wilke often talks floral trends on FOX6 News Milwaukee. One tip she’s sharing before the program: Avoid displaying products at the same level. “When presenting floral product on TV, use elevation,” Wilke said. “You want to create a visual display that works for the camera.” Wilke recommends risers or vases turned upside down to display floral arrangements at different heights.
