MONROE, USA, September 24, 2012: 371 carnations, each one honoring a person who committed suicide in Connecticut last year, stood out prominently in front of the podium last week at a press event in the state Capitol, marking a national suicide prevention day.
Gathering together were representatives of the military, the state mental health commissioner, and folks from True Colors (LGBT youth group started by singer Cindi Lauper). “Every day, Connecticut’s florists help families ease their pain with beautiful floral tributes,” said Bob Heffernan of the Connecticut Florists Association (CFA). The carnations were in colors of blue, green, yellow and orange. The event helped underline the key role florists play with funeral flowers.
