THEALE, UK, June 29, 2012: Garden retailers throughout the UK are being given the opportunity to inspire their customers and boost conifer sales during National Conifer Week, which will run between 29 September and 7 October 2012.
The objective of National Conifer Week, organised by the British Conifer Group (BCG) and supported by the Horticultural Trades Association (HTA), is to provide support for retailers to encourage their customers to see the many benefits of growing conifers in the garden.
Conifers have been overlooked in the past, but they’re currently making a comeback in the urban garden. According to an Ipsos Mori poll of 1,000 GB adults conducted in June 2011 for the HTA, nearly a third of garden owners have a conifer in their garden, making them an integral part of any garden design.
From a small balcony with room for a container, to acres of grounds with space, conifers can add something truly special to any garden. Conifers are also a wonderful way to bring gorgeous colour, structure and drama to a garden all year round, whether as a backdrop, a standalone feature, or in a border with other plants.
They are extremely versatile, coming in an amazingly diverse range of shades, textures, shapes and sizes. A potted conifer can be used to brighten up a doorstep or balcony, whilst planted conifers can create height and add exciting form to any garden.
As part of the ‘Plan it, Plant it this Autumn’ campaign, conifers can offer a way to add something new and interesting to the garden in the low sales season. Being hardy, easy to care for and long-lasting, conifers are the ideal choice for the marginal gardener looking for a low maintenance but high impact plant.
During National Conifer Week in September and October, many garden centres across the country will be highlighting conifers with eye catching displays, demonstrating the variety and choice of conifers available.
