NOORDWIJK, the Netherlands, June 8, 2012: This year’s FleuroStar winner will again be chosen during the FlowerTrials at eight locations in both The Netherlands and Germany. Benary, Selecta Klemm, Syngenta Flowers and Volmary have all entered varieties into this prestigious contest for innovative bedding plant introductions. The FleuroStar Entries for 2012/2013 are: Begonia boliviensis ‘Santa Cruz Sunset’, Dianthus cultivars ‘Pink Kisses’, Thunbergia alata ‘Arizona Glow’ and Verbena x hybrida ‘Lanai Twister Red’.
Begonia boliviensis ‘Santa Cruz Sunset’ from Benary is the first seed raised variety for patio pots, hanging baskets and beddings. Dianthus cultivars ‘Pink Kisses’ from Selecta Klemm feature a profusion of pretty pink flowers with a very early blooming stage, while Thunbergia alata ‘Arizona Glow’ from Volmary is a contrasting climber which glows in the sunlight: for hanging baskets and large pots. Finally, Verbena x hybrida ‘Lanai Twister Red’ from Syngenta Flowers is a spectacular tri-coloured, self-cleaning flower that stands out in mono-plant displays
Each of these wonderful plants has a unique quality making it a worthy FleuroStar Entry. But which flower shows the strongest ‘WOW’ effect and is most likely to woo the consumer at the point of sale? Which plant will be the rightful successor of last year’s FleuroStar winner Fragaria ‘Toscana’?
Come and judge for yourself at one of the eight FleuroStar Competition areas located at Benary, Combinations-Fleuroselect, Dümmen, Fides, Florensis, Grünewald, PanAmerican Seed/Kieft-Pro-Seeds and Sakata Ornamentals. To visit, please register at www.flowertrials.nl
In addition to hosting the FleuroStar Contest, Fleuroselect will also show the Gold Medal winners for 2013: Celosia argentea plumosa ‘Arrabona’, Dahlia cultivars sel ‘Dalaya Yogi’ and Lewisia cotyledon ‘Elise’. Also, the current FleuroStar winner Fragaria ‘Toscana’ will be presented.
