Cultivars in 2012 AAS Gardens at the University of Wyoming

WYOMING, USA, June 29, 2012: The AAS gardens at the University of Wyoming and across the country are highlighting 29 different cultivars of 18 species of garden plants in 2012.

All of the plants were set in the ground at UW on June 6, 2012.

The vegetables this year are:
Eggplant ‘Hansel‘ – 2008 selection, sown 4/2/12, transplanted 4/27/12.
Peppers ‘Cajun Belle‘ – 2010 AAS selection, ‘Orange Blaze‘ – 2011 selection, and ‘Cayennetta‘ – 2012 selection. All peppers were sown 4/2/12 and transplanted 4/27/12.
Tomatoes ‘Lizzano‘ and ‘Terenzo‘ – both 2011 selections. Both types of tomatoes were sown 4/2/12 and transplanted 4/27/12.
Pumpkin ‘Hijinks‘ – 2011 selection. Seeds were direct-sown into 4-inch pots 4/23/12.
Squash ‘Honey Bear‘ – 2009 selection. Seeds were direct-sown into 4-inch pots 4/23/12.
Melon ‘Lambkin‘ – 2009 selection. Seeds were direct-sown into 4-inch pots 4/23/12.
Watermelon ‘Shiny Boy‘ – 2010 selection, and ‘Faerie‘ – 2012 selection. Seeds of both were direct-sown into 4-inch pots 4/23/12.

Our annuals for 2012 are:
Marigold ‘Moonsong Deep Orange‘ – 2010 selection. Seeds were sown 3/7/12 and were transplanted 4/27/12.
Viola ‘Endurio Sky Blue Martien‘ – 2010 selection, ‘Rain Blue and Purple‘ – 2009 selection, ‘Skippy XL Plum-Gold‘ – 2008 selection, and ‘Shangri-La Marina‘ – 2011 selection. All violas were sown on 3/7/12 and transplanted 4/30/12.
Osteospermum ‘Asti White‘ – 2008 selection, sown 3/7/12 and transplanted 4/27/12.
Snapdragon ‘Twinny Peach‘ – 2010 selection, sown 3/7/12 and transplanted 4/30/12.
Salvia ‘Summer Jewel Red‘ – 2011 selection, and ‘Summer Jewel Pink‘ – 2012 selection. Both were sown 4/9/12 and transplanted 5/11/12.
Zinnia ‘Double Zahara Cherry‘, ‘Double Zahara Fire‘, and ‘Zahara Starlight Rose‘ – all 2010 selections. All were sown 4/9/12 and transplanted 4/27/12.
Vinca ‘Jams ‘N Jellies Blackberry‘ – 2012 selection, sown on 3/26/12 and transplanted 4/27/12.
Ornamental kale – ‘Glamour Red‘ – 2011 selection, sown on 4/23/12 and transplanted 5/1/12.
Ornamental pepper ‘Black Olive‘ – 2012 selection, sown 4/9/12 and transplanted 5/11/12.

And our perennials for 2012 gardens are:
Echinacea purpurea ‘Powwow Wild Berry‘ – 2010 selection, sown 2/1/12 and transplanted 4/27/12.
Gaillardia aristata ‘Arizona Apricot‘ – 2011 selection, and ‘Mesa Yellow‘ – 2010 selection. Both were sown 2/13/12 and transplanted 5/1/12.
