Alstroemeria breeder Giovanni Gagliardi dies at 63

RIVA LIGURE, Italy, June 10, 2012: The Centro Servizi per la Floricoltura della Regione Liguria (CSF), the service centre for Ligurian floriculture, is sad to announce that Giovanni Gagliardi, a legendary Alstroemeria, Dianthus and Helleborus breeder and owner and operator of the company with the same name, died Thursday, May 31, 2012. He was 63 years old
Founded in 1911 Gagliardi Nurseries is a family run business which works closely together with the Dutch floral giant, the Hilverda Group. Hilverda Breeding Liguria was born out of this cooperation.
Giovanni Gagliardi has created a series of spectacular Alstroemeria varieties among which are bestsellers ‘Primadonna’ and the newly launched, non-striped ‘Pavarotti’.
Giovanni is survived by his wife, Daniela and his son Domenico.
