Landscape architect Ilex Scarpellini dies at 81

Ilex Scarpellini (named after the scientific name of the shrub holly) was born on November 1, 1927 in Alzano Lombardo, Italy  He received his early education at the athenaeum in Lausanne where he took a degree in architecture and landscaping.
Founded in 1852 Scarpellini ASV is a family business in the true sense of the word and Ilex and managed to continue the family traditon in designing, implementing and maintaining parks and gardens.
In the years following the Second World War Ilex participated in international landscape competitons winning many first prizes and honourable mentions. Later, he earned international recognition with its landscape projects in Austria, Turkey and Russia. In his own country the retooling of Rome’s main square the Piazza Venezia was greeted with lots of enthusiasm.
Scarpellini leaves his wife Guiliana and his three children:  Sara, Elena and Lorenzo..
