Managing director and owner of the company Alessandro Pagano says that it will house both potted flowering plants and potted foliage plants. It is still to be decided whether the Phalaenopsis, representing an annual production of 500,000 plants will be moved to the new location.
Construction work will begin almost immediately and is expected to be completed by end of the summer.
The new facility, covering an area of 24,000 sq m, will be built on land close to the existing 45,000 sq m of greenhouses and 20 minutes from Bari’s airport, southern Italy. According to Pagano his nursery is located in an area where mainly cut flowers and outdoor plants are produced under plastic tunnels and in the open. “We are the only one with glass greenhouses. Our new construction is a Venlo greenhouse. It comprises three sections; two sections, with a post height of 4.5 meters, will be used for the production of plants, the third section represents a packaging area with a post height of 5 meters.”
Florpagano produces yearly 2 million plants for mainly the Italian market. Exports to Greece and Turkey are still modest.
